I have a strong analytical background and my research focuses on the geochemistry of biogenic carbonates. The chemistry of biogenic carbonates e.g. coral skeletons, bivalve shells and foraminifera tests may record information on the local environmental conditions prevailing at the time of their deposition making them potential indicators of environmental change and pollution. I study the biological and chemical processes which affect skeletal geochemistry during and after deposition. I am using fossil coral specimens to reconstruct climate conditions in the Pacific Ocean in the Quaternary and beyond. |
